Your Role

We are looking for a software engineer to join our fast-growing team. You’ll be an exceptional problem solver who loves difficult challenges and writing clean code. You will be ensuring that our products meet all functional, performance, operational, and user experience requirements. You are joining our team at an early stage, which means this is greenfield work. You’ll help to shape our products and culture with a world-class multidisciplinary team who are passionate to fight climate change at scale.

What you will be doing

  • Creating innovative products that fulfil our customers’ needs
  • Coach and help others as we grow the team
  • Write Python code and tests following engineering methodologies (TDD)
  • Deploy and support new and existing code on AWS
  • Developing ML-based backend incorporating multiple diverse public and IP protected spatial datasets to solve direct customer needs
  • Develop scalable code to allow multipurpose use following template and/or strategy design patterns
  • Participate in peer code reviews
  • Deliver against project plans and external delivery commitments

What technologies you’ll be using

  • Our tech is predominantly Python 3, AWS EC2 and RDS
  • Mapping interface; APIs in Mapbox and OpenStreetMap
  • Visualisation Tools; Plotly and Dash
  • Extensive use of Pandas and GeoPandas to clean, analyse and dynamically update a large variety of CSV, GEOJSON and SHP datasets
  • Python ML packages such as Pytorch/Tensorflow
  • Frontend; Our frontend is built in Flask but scope to change to a Django based framework
  • Tooling: GitHub, AWS, PostgreSQL

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • Passion to solve climate change at scale
  • Degree (including MSc) in Computer Science or related field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering/development or related technical field
  • Strong understanding of data structures and design patterns
  • Ability to work within a start-up environment and to prioritise your workload, and align to wider team targets
  • Ability to proactively anticipate challenges and obstacles
  • Ability to comfortably handle ambiguity, in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Excellent communicator, flexible, and a team player
