As the Manager, EMEA Payroll, you will be a key member of a global payroll team. You will be working cross-functionally across many time zones in support of Sonder’s global operations. The right candidate for this position will be an individual who has a natural intellectual curiosity, strong analytical skills, the ability to flex easily between tactical and strategic work, and the desire to drive process improvement.

AT SONDER YOU WILL:

  • Ensure an accurate and timely payroll, including but not limited to: base pay, equity compensation, payroll taxes, statutory and supplemental benefits, etc
  • Design payroll process, procedures and approaches for consistency, accuracy and compliance
  • Build the EMEA payroll team and promote development of the team through effective goal setting, OKRs, metrics, and engagement/development plans
  • Manage relationships with external Payroll provider, HRIS and Scheduling/Time/Attendance providers
  • Cross-functional collaboration with business partners for process improvements and efficiencies
  • Assist with driving global payroll strategy with global payroll team members to streamline processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and best-in-class services
  • Ensure all payroll regulatory filings are completed timely and accurately
  • Lead payroll development and implementation process for new countries or entities
  • Partner closely with internal partners (Employee Experience / HR Ops / Finance) to provide our employees with a first-class onboarding and payroll experience
  • Proactively prepare relevant management reports, metrics and statistics as needed
  • Stay current on regulations, benefits changes, and labor laws impacting the payroll process, and stay compliant for all payroll tax jurisdictions
  • Assist in ad-hoc duties when required

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Expertise in managing the end-to-end global payroll process and has a high level of understanding of general business operations and internal control concepts
  • Understanding of timekeeping regulations and processes
  • Ability to assess and provide input into the impact of a business process change
  • A great communicator that can build strong working relationships with external advisors and internal teams
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on employee engagement, drives for results, and is able to resolve conflicts effectively
  • Ability to drive projects/work independently and as part of a team
  • Can effectively prioritize to meet multiple tight deadlines
  • Flexible and willing to work across multiple time zones, sometimes outside of the conventional workday
  • Proactively takes initiative and makes informed decisions
  • Highly analytical, accurate, and detail-oriented. Is innovative, collaborative, and is not afraid to ask questions
  • Can think strategically and act operationally
  • Can manage ambiguity, risk, and changing direction of projects and strategies
  • Experience with complex cross-functional payroll projects, integrations, and implementations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Tax/Accounting/HR (or equivalent professional experience)
  • ADP iHCM, TMF, Workday, or other relevant payroll system experience is a plus
  • Knowledge & understanding of international equity and mobility programs
  • Deep knowledge of EMEA payroll required, knowledge of LATAM, US, CAN and APAC payrolls a plus
  • Advanced skills with Excel and other Microsoft/Google Office products
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a high performing team that completes goals and objectives in a thorough and timely manner
  • Strong communication skills, written/verbal, and the ability to interact with employees at all levels
